My Favorite Relaxing Colors For A Bedroom

Everything that I aspire to do with my home and lifestyle now revolves around minimalism. I want to minimize stress and maximize feel-good emotions. That’s the goal. There’s no better place to start than at home, because we all know that our environment drastically affects our sense of well-being. With this in mind, I scrubbed through my notes on the psychological effects of colors and compiled a list of relaxing colors for a bedroom.

Ultimately, decorating a bedroom to be relaxing boils down to using earthy colors. This makes sense to me because nature elicits feelings of tranquility and peace in most people. But some of the bold colors in nature can be exciting, energizing, and loud. So the key is to choose neutral shades of earthy colors.

When speaking of neutral shades, we are referring to a soft tone or soft temperature on the color palette. It has less saturation and intensity of color.

Even a color like yellow can be relaxing if you choose the softest temperature and saturation on the color wheel.

If you can follow this tidbit of advice, I guarantee you that it will be easy to decorate your bedroom to be relaxing and cozy.

My Top Picks For Relaxing Bedroom Colors

1. Egg-shell White

Believe it or not, there are many shades of white. As much as a bright ice white looks clean, it may not be as relaxing as one expects.

Ideally, a soft white is the perfect bedroom color for a relaxing aesthetic.

2. Cream

I genuinely think cream is the most popular bedroom color in the world, and for good reason. It’s warm without being loud, and it’s calming without being dull.

There are ample shades of cream, but my personal favorite is one that leans more towards a mix of soft yellow and white than an undertone of brown.

This color is very soothing during the later afternoons, when the hue of the setting sun bounces across the walls to create a glow that will just warm your soul.

3. Powder blue

Isn’t it true that when looking up at a soft blue sky, hope and serenity fill your heart? It certainly does for me.

And it just so happens that a soft powder blue can create the same serene and peaceful energy in a bedroom. This was the color of my bedroom as a kid, and I still remember it so fondly.

4. Gray

When it comes to a gray bedroom, you have to opt for a washed-out light shade of gray.

Darker shades, like charcoal gray, are too dull and depressive. It may work for some people, but rarely do I find that shade of gray to be relaxing.

Pairing light gray walls with white accessories, bedding, and curtains creates an aesthetic that is soothing and cool.

5. Peach

For some reason, the energetic undertones of red and the energizing base of yellow make peach an ideal color for a relaxing bedroom.

I could be biased because peach is one of my all-time favorite colors because it appears to make a room feel cozy, especially at night with a warm light coloring the room.

6. Milkshake green

An argument can be made that dark green can be relaxing, provided that your bedroom is large and spacious.

Otherwise, you run the risk of creating a cluttered and busy space that feels claustrophobic and too intense.

But green can be used in any size bedroom if you opt for a light shade like milkshake green. It’s vibrant without being too loud and soothing due to it’s energizing nature.

Paired with natural wood furniture and floors, you can create a relaxing and therapeutic slice of the outdoors in your bedroom.

7. Lilac

This is such a beautiful color, and I strongly feel like it makes for a relaxing and elegant bedroom color.

Ordinarily, I would recommend pink, but there’s something more tranquil and charming about the richness of purple in it’s lightest form.

In fact, the lilac flower has actually been shown to have some health benefits that improve sleep and reduce stress as well as anxiety.

That directly ties into our objective of decorating a bedroom in a manner that is relaxing for your mind, body, and soul.

8. Light Pink

Not many colors are as sweet, gentle, and easy on the eyes as light pink. Much of this can be attributed to it’s beautiful feminine energy and neutrality, making it easy to accessorize and accentuate with other colors.

There you go! That’s my top pick for relaxing colors for a bedroom. As long as you have floors that complement one of the colors on this list, you should be able to use them in your bedroom. With that being said, please leave a comment below to let me know which bedroom color you like best.
