17 Cozy Winter Bedding Ideas You Need To Try This Year

  • Zak

As winter creeps into our homes, it brings with it an opportunity for us to refresh and change our home decor to appear more warm, comfy, and inviting. I am a huge fan of winter because I love to cuddle up in bed with a good mystery book and a hot cup of herbal tea. In saying that, it’s time for me to ditch my summer sheets and try some of these amazing cozy winter bedding ideas.

That being said, here are some cozy winter bedding ideas that will add both warmth and charm to your bedroom.

Winter Bedding Inspo

A. Rustic Cabin Look

1. Plaid Patterns: Use flannel plaid bedding in deep reds, greens, or earthy tones to create a warm, rustic feel.

2. Faux Fur Accents: Add a faux fur throw or blanket at the foot of the bed, along with soft, furry pillows. They’re just as fluffy and comfortable as real fur without actually causing harm to animals.

3. Textured Knits: Cable-knit blankets or pillow covers enhance the cabin aesthetic with a cozy texture. This winter bedding feels like someone is hugging you and I don’t know about you but I need that in my life!

B. Scandinavian Minimalist

4. Neutral Color Palette: At its core, the Scandinavian minimalist style emphasizes simplicity, comfort, and functionality with natural elements. It’s very soothing, so I would stick to whites, grays, and soft creams for your bedding to emphasize a calming, simple look. With warm white lights, you can create the most soothing and romantic ambiance in your bedroom.

5. Layered Textures: To add more flair, pair cotton or linen bedding with wool throws and a plush duvet for warmth without heaviness.

6. Natural Simple Materials: Incorporate materials like wool, linen, and wood to embrace Scandinavian design elements. Also, natural material without any patterns or designs lends simplicity to a room that might be overwhelming with other design elements.

C. Modern Luxe

7. Velvet Duvet Cover: Rich, soft velvet adds luxury and warmth to your bed setup. Just imagine a rich purple, blue, green, or black velvet duvet cover on your bed! How stunning and luxurious!

8. Jewel Tones: To create a rich, bold, and intensely warm feeling in your bedroom, I recommend incorporating jewel tones like deep emerald, navy, or burgundy bed linens into your bedding. These colors are plush and lend sophistication to a modern bedroom.

9. Gold or Brass Accents: In a white, cream, or black bedroom, use a metallic throw pillow or quilt for a touch of elegance.

D. Vintage Charm

10. Quilted Bedding: Nothing makes a room feel more like a homely warm bedroom like patchwork quilts or velvet quilts for a classic, layered look. They’re timeless and are a fond reminder of older home decor that our grandparents and loved ones worked very hard to create.

11. Embroidered or Lace Detailing: Subtle details add old-world charm and coziness.

12. Warm Pastels and Florals: Go for muted pastel bedding, perhaps with small floral prints, to create a cozy, vintage-inspired bed. Floral patterns were all the rage with my grandparents and I have to say, it still has a place in the world of decor even in this decade.

E. Boho Chic

13. Mixed Patterns and Textures: Use a mix of patterns like paisley or global-inspired prints in warm colors. Boho chic bedrooms tend to combine complementary colors and are unashamedly colorful.

14. Layered Throws and Pillows: Pile on throws in macramé, woven textures, and soft knits.

15. Earth Tones: Choose shades like rust, mustard, and forest green for a bohemian warmth.

F. Classic Winter White

16. White Fluffy Layers: Create a cozy yet airy winter wonderland vibe with all-white layers of flannel, fleece, or faux fur. It’s simple but can work, especially in bedrooms with wood or carpet floors.

17. Subtle Texture: Add interest with textures like chunky knits, velvet, or quilted bedding.

Bonus Idea – Icicle Lights or String Lights: For a magical touch, hang string lights around the headboard or canopy.
